Digital Immortality

In 2005, one million pixels changed the internet. In 2025, we are rebuilding that idea on-chain — with real ownership, verifiable on the blockchain, and no central authority in control.

The Legacy

In 2005, a British student had a simple idea: sell one million pixels on a webpage for $1 each. The project went viral and earned $1,000,000 in months — proving that the internet could turn novelty into a business. It was a cultural moment.

PIXEL_ERA is an independent project, created from scratch, inspired by that same spirit of creative simplicity — but rebuilt for the blockchain era. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the original project or its creator in any way.

Where the original was ephemeral, PIXEL_ERA is permanent. Where it was centralized, we are decentralized. The idea of owning a piece of the internet belongs to everyone.

Disclaimer: PIXEL_ERA is an independent, original project. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any prior pixel-grid project or its creators. The concept of selling advertising pixels is a general idea in the public domain and is not protected by intellectual property law. All branding, code, and design of PIXEL_ERA are original works.

The Technology

Built for total decentralization

description

Smart Contracts

Pixel ownership is verified and secured via the Ethereum blockchain. No centralized authority can delete or modify your claim.

LAYER 1 SECURITY

IPFS Storage

All visual data and link metadata are stored on IPFS, ensuring that your pixels live as long as the peer-to-peer web exists.

DISTRIBUTED ASSETS
bolt

Optimized Gas

Batch minting available to minimize transaction costs.

ERC-721 Standard

Every block is a unique, tradable NFT asset — compatible with OpenSea and other ERC-721 marketplaces on Base.

The
Rules

Transparent. Immutable. Mathematical.

1000×1000

Grid Size

The canvas is exactly one million pixels. No more will ever be created. The grid is divided into 10×10 blocks for ease of placement.

$49 / Block

Pixel Price

One 10×10 pixel block costs $49. The entire canvas holds 10.000 blocks — only $490.000 for one million pixels of internet history.

Forever

Ownership

Once minted, the pixels are yours. You can keep them, sell them on secondary markets, or update the image link at any time (gas required).

On-Chain

Validation

All ownership records live on Ethereum. The frontend is just a viewer — anyone can host their own version of this grid.

Frequently Asked

What is actually stored on the blockchain? expand_more
Your ownership is on-chain: the block coordinates (x, y), the owner wallet address, and the link to your image. This data is permanent and cannot be altered or deleted — not even by us.
What is stored on IPFS? expand_more
Your image file is uploaded to IPFS — a decentralized network where files are identified by their content, not by a server. The IPFS link is then recorded in your NFT on the blockchain. As long as the file is pinned, it is publicly accessible.
What is permanent — and what can be changed? expand_more
Your ownership of the block coordinates is permanent and cannot be taken away. The image and the destination link can be updated at any time — only by the wallet that owns the block.
Can I sell my block later? expand_more
Yes. Every block is an ERC-721 NFT on Base Mainnet — transferable and tradable on OpenSea and any marketplace that supports Base. You own it, you decide what to do with it.
How do I update my image or link? expand_more
Connect the wallet used for minting. Select your block on the grid and click "Update". You can provide a new image or IPFS URL and a new destination link. The transaction costs a small gas fee (<$0.10 on Base).
What happens if the website goes down? expand_more
The website is just a viewer. All ownership data lives on the Base blockchain and all images on IPFS — both independent of any single server. Anyone can build their own frontend to display the grid. Your ownership is safe regardless.
Is there a referral program? expand_more
Not yet. A referral program is planned for a future update. Follow @pixelera_net for announcements.

Open Source Pledge

10% goes back
to Open Source

PIXEL_ERA is built entirely on open source software — OpenZeppelin smart contracts, ethers.js, and the Base network. We believe in giving back to the ecosystem that made this possible.

At each sales milestone, 10% of the collected ETH is donated to open source projects. Every donation will be made transparently on-chain and announced publicly.

Planned recipients include OpenZeppelin, Protocol Guild (Ethereum core devs), and Gitcoin.

Milestone 1 — 25% sold (2.500 blocks)

First on-chain donation

Milestone 2 — 50% sold (5.000 blocks)

Second on-chain donation

Milestone 3 — 100% sold (10.000 blocks)

Final donation — grid complete
